Verba (willow) is one of the oldest and most tender images in Ukrainian tradition. It appears in folklore, rituals, fairy tales, and songs as a plant that embodies life, softness, motherhood, and the ability to weather storms without losing flexibility.

Main meanings:

• Femininity and tenderness: willow is a soft, flexible, yet living and strong plant. It symbolizes maternal care, warmth, and inner resilience, the ability to warm even in bad weather.
• Connection of generations: in folk beliefs, the willow passed on the strength of the lineage. Willow branches were blessed on Palm Sunday and kept in the house as an amulet for the whole year.
• Rebirth and renewal: willow quickly takes root, even in water, so it is considered a symbol of new life, hope, and continuous renewal.
• Holiness and protection: willow is associated with Easter rituals; it was believed to "revive" – symbolically striking the shoulder with a wish for health: "It's not I who strikes – it's the willow that strikes!".
